Bonn - Rheinau park - Freizeitpark Rheinau
This was the first tourist attraction we visited and to say the least it left a lasting impression on me.
The Park is very huge and its difficult to walk around it at a stretch. There are many small sections within this and the following few are a must visit.
The cluster of cherry blossom trees at the Main entrance - months of April , May , June
Rose Garden - months of April , May , June
Japanese Garden
Food stands in Summer
Other than this a stroll around a lake in the middle of the park (Be careful of the otters, Ducks and especially Duck droppings !! ) Many feed the ducks breads etc .
From the lake on can walk towards the majestic Rhine River , this here is a amateur cyclist's dream come true with the beautiful Rhine on one side and a sprawling green lush on the other. The cycling path continues till a ferry point from where a ferry can be taken along with your bike to the other end of river which is called Königswinter .
There is also a Deer shelter (Tierpark in Deutsch) as you walk along (be sure to take carrots to feed , that's when you can get a close up look at these beautiful animals).
This is a great place for a picnic . And I have been fortunate enough to have picnics here with my son and my husband 3-4 times. Lying down on your picnic blanket with sun on your face , a book in your hands, playing ball with your kids, having a cone of ice-cream (Kügel in Deutsch) seeing the ships pass by on the Rhine. That is a perfect way to spend a summery day in Bonn.
